DRAG ON!!!Cincinnati Dragons News and Updates View fullsize DRAGON HAVE SUCCESSFUL START TO SEASON AT QUEEN CITY CLASSIC IN CHARLOTTE!! The Cincinnati Dragons' 2021-22 season got off to a successful start last weekend in Charlotte. Our prep team finished in 3rd place out of 8 teams by going 4-1 including victories over Birmingham, New York, Mississippi, and Raleigh with their only loss coming to the tournament champion Charlotte Hornets. Our varsity team finished in 2nd place out of 12 teams with a 4-1 record including victories over Atlanta, Charlotte, Baltimore and Fairfax. In the rematch against Atlanta in the championship game, the Dragons lost 61-58 snapping their 32-game winning streak going back to the start of last season. The Dragons will be back in action on December 4-5 at Mt Washington Recreation Center in Cincinnati at our only home tournament of the season. Kerwin Haake Signing Day Ceremony The Dragons are happy to announce that senior Kerwin Haake (Lexington KY) has signed his letter of intent to play college wheelchair basketball with the University of Arizona next year. Kerwin has been a 4-year starter and captain for the Dragons leading them to a top-5 finish his sophomore and junior years. Kerwin plans to major in deaf studies. Congrats and good luck Kerwin!! The Cincinnati Dragons Varsity team won the Iowa Capital Classic in Des Moines this past weekend. The Dragons dominated the competition with a 6-0 record including an 81-26 championship victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Dragons currently have a 10-0 record going into this weekend's KC Crossroads Tournament in Kansas City. The Cincinnati Dragons Varsity Wheelchair Basketball Team won their 3rd tournament of the season last weekend in Kansas City!! The Dragons finished 5-0 against varsity competition and their record now stands at 15-0 for the season. The Dragons are currently the only unbeaten varsity wheelchair basketball team in the nation. Congratulations to Alex Hilgeford and Gabe Taylor for making the all-tournament team! The Dragons will return to action at the Big Peach Jam in Atlanta on May 15-16. View fullsize Dragons Win Big Peach Slam Jam Last weekend the Dragons varsity team traveled to Atlanta and won the Big Peach Slam Jam Tournament! The Dragons defeated Atlanta White (61-22), Charlotte (76-37) and Nashville (49-15) in pool play on Saturday before defeating Atlanta Red 68-57 in a hard-fought championship game. The Dragons varsity record is now 19-0 on the season. View fullsize Dragons win Midwest Conference Tournament! The Cincinnati Dragons varsity team won the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time last weekend at St Xavier HS in Cincinnati. The Dragons went 5-0 over the weekend including including a 67-37 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks in the championship game. The Dragons finish the regular season undefeated with a 24-0 record and now advance to the NWBA National Tournament in Wichita on June 25-27. The Cincinnati Dragons prep team played their first games of the season this weekend and finished in 2nd place at the Midwest Conference Tournament. The prep team will also be traveling to Wichita for the national tournament on June 25-27. The Dragons finished the season with an undefeated 28-0 record with wins over #16 Baltimore (74-51), #8 Indianapolis (74-26) and #4 Charlotte (53-45) before defeating #2 Atlanta 55-50 in overtime in the championship game. Congrats to Alex Hilgeford for being named tournament MVP, Gabe Taylor for being named championship game MVP and Kerwin Haake being named to the all-tournament team. We are so proud of this team for battling through a tough year. Their national championship was canceled last year due to Covid and we weren't sure if they would have a season this year. But this group got to work and started conditioning by pushing 5-6 miles in the 95 degree heat on outdoor trails and practicing on outdoor courts until we could get back in the gym. And now they are national champions!! View fullsize CONGRATS TO THE DRAGON VARSITY TEAM!! Congratulations to our Dragons varsity team for winning the Junior Regional Tournament at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater this weekend. The Dragons finished the weekend 5-0 against some of the top teams in the Midwest. The Dragons capped off the tournament with a 68-59 victory over #3 nationally ranked Kansas City Kings in the championship game. The Dragons now have a 12-3 record and are ranked #2 in the country. Both the prep and varsity Dragons teams will return to action at the Big Peach Slam Jam in Atlanta on January 29-30.
